Racketeers burned shops and looted stalls

A group of racketeers who extorted money from businessmen in Yahotyn district of Kyiv region was detained by militiamen. Members of the group – ten area residents, including former convicts – overlaid with local entrepreneurs monthly tribute in the amount of from 5 to 10 thousand UAH. In case of refusal to pay were threatened with physical violence or destruction of their property. Recorded a few arson of shops and the destruction of vending stalls.

This was announced by the chief of police of Kyiv Dmitry coens.

“Law enforcement officers conducted 18 searches in places of residence and probable residence intruders in Kiev, Yahotyn and Vasilkov. 30 seized Bank cards, to which victims transferred money, as well as brass knuckles, knives, ammunition and psychotropic substances”, – told the coens.

The criminal proceedings are opened. Detainees could face up to 12 years of prison with confiscation of property. Investigations are continuing.

In Khmelnytsky detained a gang of racketeers, which included a policeman from the capital.
