In 2018, the price of meat will rise because of increasing demand and reduced cattle and pigs.
“In connection with the planned increase from the second quarter of 2018 the minimum wage to UAH 4200, there is the threat of rising retail meat prices,” – says a senior researcher of the Department of pricing and agricultural market Institute of agricultural Economics Svitlana Pashko, writes UNIAN.
According to her, last year the retail price of meat rose on average by 30.4-46.1 per cent. At the same time, average wages from January to November 2017 increased from 6008 7479 UAH to UAH.
“In addition, in 2018 is expected to reduce the number of cattle and pigs due to the rising feed prices and frequent outbreaks of African swine fever virus in pigs”, – said the expert.
Other factors of growth of prices for meat will rise in price of utility bills and veterinary services, the indexation of pensions of citizens, a seasonal increase in domestic demand and export growth product. Directly on the cost of meat will impact the depreciation of the national currency against the dollar and the Euro.
“Last year, the most expensive beef. So, in the end of 2016, kilogram of beef without bones, the average cost 85,02 UAH, in December 2017 – 117,77 hryvnia. Over the same period the retail price of pork with bone increased from 67.26 UAH per kilogram to 93 hryvnia. Less increased the retail price of poultry meat. In December 2016 it cost 41,34 UAH per kilogram, and in December 2017 – 53,91 of the hryvnia” – summed up S. Pasko.
Since January, Ukraine has moved to a new type of monitoring products, goods and services on the basis of which is inflation. A new list of products has been expanded. Instead of 23 social items now monitoring shall be 31 item. Among those new products, the cost of which resonated in this year: chicken, loaf, bread from wheat flour, semolina, barley, millet, apples, and frozen fish.
