Ukrainian defense Minister Stepan Poltorak on Friday, February 2, met in Washington with Pentagon James Mattis.
“We considered all the issues, including the issue of the U.S. decision to give Ukraine lethal weapons. We discussed the mechanism of how it will develop, and there is a full understanding of this. The U.S. decision was timely and correct, and the transfer of weapons will be implemented in a timely manner and very carefully,” said the head of Ukrainian defense Ministry, reports “UKRINFORM”.
Poltorak called the transfer of American weapons is “a great signal to Ukraine and a signal to Russia that Ukraine is not left alone with the aggression of the Russian Federation”.
“Voice of America” writes that Mattis and Poltorak also discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
“We used diplomacy in an attempt to ensure that Russia fulfills the Minsk agreement. And we will continue these efforts through our State Department. We are actively involved, and this is the direction that we choose,” – said the Minister of defense.
Earlier it was expected that the Minister of defence of Ukraine will discuss the terms of supply “javelin”, as well as pragmatic steps to strengthen relations between our armed forces.
