10 Feb 88 year of life died an academician, Director of Institute of philosophy named after Gregory Skovoroda of the NAS of Ukraine Miroslav Popovic.

Ukrainians need to learn how simultaneously to solve three problems – to assert independence, to develop democracy and strengthen the well-being, – said the philosopher Miroslav Popovich in an interview with “Krajina” in October 2013. We offer you to remember.

Miroslav Popovich: “the Entry of Ukraine into the European house to increase its diversity and reduce the chance of decline”

About civil society in Ukraine:

“There are pockets actively. People feel that they are the truth, and a conscious move towards democracy. Leaders need to remember: the sense of justice is what can be won really big political battle.

It is difficult to find national selection, orientation. Only when the fundamental values of liberty, justice wakes up something that people can rally.

But hope for a military conflict, which we consolidate and naive. Ukrainians kill each other even before you know which way to shoot. We live in our own small world. But it’s not so bad. The desire to be a good host – not a national trait. It does not disappear even when we were herded into collective farms. Though people have learned to steal, his instinct remained. But now and learn not to steal – hard”.

The difference between us and the Europeans:

“The Europeans will not come to mind to pass without a ticket. And for our people, especially the young, it seems so natural that they don’t even put that question. Another example: one of my friend bought in France shoes. And showed a familiar French. And she said, “What did you do? Acquired Italian shoes! It’s our jobs, our industry – French to buy!”Now that the Ukrainians there. Once it was in Galicia, with a large cooperative movement and the slogan “own Your for his.” But on the Dnieper, it somehow doesn’t spread.

It is important that people in Ukraine had a free choice and responsible for their actions. It is the lack of responsibility is what separates us from the European way of life

It is important that people in Ukraine had a free choice and responsible for their actions. It is the lack of responsibility is what separates us from the European way of life.

Europeans have higher consciousness, they are United around their national slogans and projects. But if the Ukrainians to compare with tsentralnoaziatskii countries – Tajikistan, Uzbekistan – will be a huge difference in our favor. Ukraine is much more comfortable for living and mentally closer to the West. Even compared to the Russian average level. Because Moscow is a state within a state.

About relations with Moscow:

“The attitude of Russians to Ukraine is ambivalent. On the one hand, like a rebellious province, and on the other as a stranger, another country. The Russians feel there is a lot of what they have. And now a historic moment – over 300 years of our slave relationship with Moscow. Begins a new era – both for Ukraine and for Ukrainian-Russian relations. There is something majestic”.

about Russian literature:

“Serious literature occurs only when people have some important sores. Dostoevsky or Tolstoy appear where life becomes unbearable. And God forbid we suffer so with their own culture. Most of the Russian that created a lot of pain, made it inevitable for human beings. But it has poisoned the life of the Russians – now they can not exist without this pain.”

The level of culture of the Ukrainians:

“We still have vodka and beer spend much more than books.

Intellectual culture – books, theater, good cinema in Europe is relatively widespread, and competes with pop culture. We do very little. We are too concerned about passing and forgot about eternity. It affects public morality. Talking about politics – in each bus. Where to hear about books or theatre?

We are still on vodka and beer spend much more than books

Informed about the policy you can only talk in the kitchen – and it turned into intellectual creativity. Today such an atmosphere does not, because all was resolved. I want to cry – go outside and scream. High in the face earn. That was higher than the overall culture of Ukrainians, all this has to Paraclete and start to be implemented in a completely different form. We have accumulated a lot of products of disintegration of morality. And to modern man, not only in Ukraine, will have something to do with it. He lives today to paycheck. And does not want to look what will happen in 10 years.

Of happiness and tragedy:

“All human life is the victim. For all mortals. And the prospect of death gives the knowledge of the tragedy of existence. When people just become consumers and live in their own little world full of small pleasures, of tragedy more. Forget it when there is a danger, but he comes out when there is calm. Then seeking asylum in the loved ones, children, friends. Even in Pets. I have a dog. When you come back from work, the dog happily greets and walks around the house with me wherever I went. That’s the kind of dog everyone should have. Otherwise, there comes that Pan was called “boredom”.

The excess of the tragedy makes a person stupid

This tragedy can be felt when living well, and when things are bad. I remember prisoners of war during the German occupation. Saw Jews shot. Then don’t think about anything. The excess of the tragedy makes a person stupid. He rushes to the raw beets that give him food, pulling out another prisoner. Need to find a balance so people can feel happy.

About the eternal problems of Ukrainians:

“The Ukrainian people have always had to solve three problems. First: the state independence. For 20 years we got used to the idea: who is behind the independence is good and who is against bad. Although there are people who put first the issue of democracy. I remember a conversation with a dissident in the 1960s. He said: “Yes I spit on your independence. I need freedom!”Then critical that people understand that before you talk about democracy, we must talk about independence. Today we understand that if we lose the independence that these details – who, where and what was taken will not play a role. The second problem – freedom. Because you can have an independent state, but something that created Ceausescu in Romania. It is very sharply polemic with Moscow, but inside was a dictatorship, which then burst.

Today we understand that if we lose the independence that these details – who, where and what was taken will not play a role

Finally, there is the problem of bread. So, the independence, democracy and prosperity. Must be able to simultaneously solve these three tasks.”

On the accession of Ukraine to Europe and the future of the EU:

“Here I remain optimistic. The more diversity, the more stable the system. The entry of Ukraine into the European house to increase its diversity and will reduce the likelihood of decline. We will bring a lot of interesting, what they don’t know. On the other hand, a lot of useful get. But Europe really needs fresh blood. If the Ukrainians will be able to preserve the culture, values and use of its material resources, my grandchildren will live a much more interesting and meaningful to me.”
